Enrollment Status:Students must take a minimum of 12 hours to be considered full-time students. Please note that students taking less than 12 hours (not full-time) may be in jeopardy of:
- losing insurance coverage under parent/guardian's insurance policy
- being out of compliance with the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services if enrolled on a student visa
- being placed on a loan repayment schedule by a lender or guarantor if student is the recipient of Federal financial aid
- losing a scholarship or financial aid if the guidelines for receiving it require full-time enrollment
Maximum Registration Hours:Students are allowed to register for up to 17 hours during preregistration and up to 19 hours during open registration. To go over 19 hours, you must contact your advisor for further approval and have a GPA over 3.0. It is also important to note that Texas A&M will charge tuition at the non-resident rate to all students who exceed their program's semester credit hour limit (click
here for more information).
Classification by Hours:It is important to note that registration is based on earned hours at the time registration assignments are made. Students with a change in classification after assignments are made can contact registration@tamu.edu to request an updated time assignment (must be before the start of the updated time).
Freshman : 0-29 hours
Sophomore : 30-59 hours
Junior : 60-89 hours
Senior : 90+ hours
