Tau Sigma National Honor Society
Tau Sigma is the only national honor society designed exclusively for transfer students. Their mission is to "recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students." Tau Sigma provides its members opportunities to network, develop friendships, earn scholarships, and attend conferences, as well as take leadership positions and serve others at the university and in the community.
Invitation Requirements
To receive an invitation to join Tau Sigma, you must be registered in a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree at Texas A&M University for an amount of work equal to an average full load (usually 12 to 15 hours). Membership in the Organization is based upon superior academic achievement by transferring students during their first term to the institution to which they transfer (only credit hours that count toward a bachelor's degree can be used to determine Tau Sigma eligibility). The minimum academic average required for membership is 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.Texas A&M University Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship
Texas A&M University offers two levels of scholarships to highly qualified Texas community college Phi Theta Kappa transfer students. These scholarships are renewable for up to two years.
The TAMU Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarships recognize outstanding transfer students who will be attending Texas A&M University. Students must transfer directly from a Texas community college and have been actively involved with the Phi Theta Kappa chapter associated with their campus immediately prior to transfer to be considered. Students must complete at least 24 hours at their previous community college and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPR while at Texas A&M University. The scholarships range in value from $2,000 to $5,000 dollars annually and are renewable for up to two years. Selection criteria for the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship include, but are not limited to, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership, PTK involvement, academic major, and, in some instances, financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Eligibility
To be reviewed for the Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship:- You must be a Texas resident.
- You must be a first-time undergraduate degree seeking transfer student from a Texas community college.
- You must be an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa chapter associated with the community college from which you are immediately transferring at the time of application. If you are inducted into Phi Theta Kappa after submitting your Apply Texas application, you will not be able to make changes to your application.
- To renew, each semester recipients are required to maintain enrollment in at least 12 credit hours in both the fall and spring semesters, a minimum cumulative GPR of 3.0, and not be on conduct probation. This scholarship is renewable for up to two (2) years or four semesters.
Duration
The Texas A&M University Phi Theta Kappa scholarship is offered for up to two years. Students who apply for spring will be considered for fall scholarships as well.Application
Students may apply using the ApplyTexas Application or CommonApp application for Transfer Admissions.You must provide consent for application data to be used for scholarship consideration at the time of application. If you decline, you will not be considered for scholarship opportunities through Texas A&M University. The consent authorization question is found in the Admissions portion for both ApplyTexas and the Common application. Once your application is submitted, it cannot be revised.
