Outstanding Advocate for First-Year Students Award

Award Details
  • Purpose: Recognize a faculty, staff, or administrator for significant and extraordinary contributions to the development of undergraduate first-year students and involvement in high-impact practices for first-year student success.

  • Award: Recipient receives $500 and a plaque. The winner of this award will be submitted for consideration for a national level Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate award through the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. 

  • Eligibility: Texas A&M faculty and staff in College Station, McAllen, and Galveston may be nominated for the award.

  • Timeline: We are currently accepting nominations with all submissions due by March 20. The award is presented at the Hullabaloo U All Instructor Symposium on May 13. 

Award Criteria
  • The award nomination includes:

    • Letter of Nomination with supporting narrative (from Nominator), not to exceed 5 pages

      • Should include examples of the nominee's efforts and attributes that make them an advocate for first-year students and addresses the following:

        • Describe the nominee's efforts and attributes that make them an advocate for first-year students;

        • Provide specific and measurable evidence of the impact of the nominee's efforts on the development and advocacy of first-year students

        • Provide specific and measurable evidence of the impact of the nominee's efforts on the culture of the institution, college/division, or unit/department

    • Supporting Letter(s) from Faculty, Staff, or Students - no more than 5 supporting letters that do not exceed 10 pages total. 

      • The letters of support should include examples of the nominee's efforts and attributes that make the nominee an advocate for first-year students and addresses the following:

        • Describe the nominee's efforts and attributes that make them an advocate for first-year students;

        • Provide specific and measurable evidence of the impact of the nominee's efforts on the development and advocacy of first-year students

        • Provide specific and measurable evidence of the impact of the nominee's efforts on the culture of the institution, college/division, or unit/department

Hullabaloo U Instructor of the Year Award

Award Details
  • Purpose: Recognize one Hullabaloo U Instructor who demonstrates exemplary teaching and has made a positive impact on students. 

  • Award: Recipient receives $500 and a plaque.

  • Eligibility: Texas A&M faculty and staff in College Station, McAllen, and Galveston who have served as an instructor of a Hullabaloo U certified course during the previous year may be nominated for the award.

  • Timeline: Nominations are currently being accepted and due Friday, February 2. The award is presented at the Hullabaloo U All Instructor Symposium in mid May. 

Award Criteria
  • In January, students can submit nominations of Hullabaloo U instructors who:

    • Help students achieve academic success, discover and connect with Texas A&M University, and promote personal development, wellbeing, and social responsibility

    • Use interesting, interactive, and varied methods to facilitate student learning and achievement of course outcomes

    • Encourage and facilitate meaningful class discussions

    • Display enthusiasm for the course and students

    • Express care and concern for student success and wellbeing

    • Promote an inclusive, enjoyable, and welcoming environment and demonstrates respect for students

    • Develop meaningful relationships with students by being personable, approachable, and available both in and out of the classroom

    • Demonstrate knowledge related to course content

    • Motivate and inspire others by their passion for learning and personal commitment to each student

    • Demonstrate a sustained commitment to professional growth as an instructor and to the Hullabaloo U program

    • Create an intentional and effective course design that reflects best practices and provide an appropriate balance of challenge and support

Hullabaloo U Peer Mentor of the Year Award

Award Details
  • Purpose: Recognize one Hullabaloo U Peer Mentor who demonstrates exemplary support within a first-year course and has made a positive impact on first-year students.  

  • Award: Recipient receives $500 and a plaque.

  • Eligibility: Texas A&M students in College Station, McAllen, Galveston and Qatar who have served as a peer mentor of a Hullabaloo U certified course during the previous year may be nominated for the award.

  • Timeline: The nomination form opens in January and is due late February. The award is presented at the Hullabaloo U All Instructor Symposium in mid May.
